This is the ultimate fast-as-a-bullet, single page, search-everything-you-ever-wished for and on-the-fly-editing worldbuilding extravaganza for the ages!
Who is it for?
The Explorer was built with the modern gamemaster/ dungeon master/ storyteller and writer in mind. It is meant to be used for you to edit your work while off-game or writing, but its true power lies with its robust search engine that allows you instantaneously access to your content while in game or mid-writing flow.
What does it do?The Explorer mode is the third way of exploring your world in World Anvil. Everyone already knows of the Editor and the Presentation mode, but the Explorer is here to bridge the gap between the two. It creates a totally smooth experience while you are working with your world!
The Explorer is built to:
- Allow you to search through your content using FULL TEXT search: that means, title, excerpt, tags and vignette
- Browse through your categories and articles faster than ever
- Browse by Template Type with the same super fast speed
- Navigate your maps from the same page AND create markers and soon marker groups from a streamlined and simplified interface
- Explore your Timelines with ease (much more to come here soon)
- Quick edit your articles making the process care-free and allowing you to create a much more robust tagging and organization system
- Navigate the parent/child connections of your articles by visualizing them as information trees
…if you have any ideas about what else you’d like to see from it, NOW IS THE TIME to throw them to me in the comments below!
Could articles have multiple parents? That is, could I link one article/person to both its mother and its father? Just an idea, but I think that’d be neat.
I love Explore mode so much! Is there anyway this can be standard somehow to view your world as a user? Much more simpler to navigate around.
Can you elaborate by becoming standard?
Of course, let me first just say that english isnt my first language so I can express myself somewhat wierd – so sorry in advance!
As a game master, I use this not only for my world building process but letting it be a wiki for my players to quickly find any information about my world they want to dig in for more knowledge. As for this moment, the homepage for the world have two way to navigate: Search and the Table of Content. They are good, but I miss to have some sort of menu for the players to navigate allt the information that are easy to access for them.
Perhaps what I wish for from Explore mode is having a constant menu on the left side with the table of content. Perhaps something I could do in CSS but hav’nt looked into it yet.
I think the request is for a user-end front-facing version of this rather than limiting it to the back-end for the author only. I was thinking the same thing.
I’m a big fan of this new explorer mode already, thanks for the great feature.
One enhancement that I would love to see is the ability for the explorer to remember where you were once you come back from another page. Currently if I navigate to a place in the explorer and click a link that takes me to another page, when I navigate back it puts me at the explorers entry view. I then need to browse / search for the view I was on again.
Maybe updating the address route might be a way to go here, then the location can be bookmarked as well as a bonus.
Keep up the great work 🙂
