D&D Beyond is an amazing tool to build your D&D 5e characters—but it’s all for nothing if you want to use World Anvil’s campaign manager and campaign setting creation tools! Which is why we’ve created the D&D Beyond Importer. You can now bring your character to World Anvil with just a couple of clicks!

What’s the D&D Beyond Importer?
The D&D Beyond Importer is our newest feature, and it lets you import your D&D 5e characters from D&D Beyond into World Anvil! Imported characters will use the World Anvil character sheet, which means you’ll get full integration with the D&D campaign manager. When it’s time to level up, you’ll be able to do so on World Anvil or on D&D Beyond—in which case you’ll have to import it again. But don’ worry, the process is very easy!
How to Import a Character from D&D Beyond
Importing a D&D Beyond character into World Anvil is very easy. Make sure you have a finished character on D&D Beyond and a blank character sheet on World Anvil and follow these steps:
- Make sure the character sheet on D&D Beyond is public. Otherwise, World Anvil can’t see it!
- Get the character ID number: look at the character’s URL on D&D Beyond—the number at the end is the ID. For example, if the URL is https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/username/characters/11111111, the ID would be 11111111.
- On World Anvil, open the character sheet and click the red “Import D&D Beyond Character” button on the right.
- In the pop-up, paste in the ID of the D&D Beyond character you got in step 2. Note that this will replace the contents of the sheet, so only do this for new characters or when leveling up!
And it’s done! You should now be able to view the sheet, share it with your friends or your DM, and take advantage of all the campaign manager features.

This is awesome!
Clearly it does not pull in everything (yet?) but it’s still a great feature and will save me tons of time not having to manually create statblocks for PCs for my campaigns now.
Thank you for your kind words – I’m glad it’s been saving you time! I appreciate your feedback, too; what areas are you wanting to import that aren’t yet imported?
Is there anywhere to find documentation that is NOT Youtube? Anything actually written? I need to find a written startup guide that shows things like WHERE the D&D beyond importer is and how it works? I can’t figure out the interface without some documentation, and all I’ve found so far are youtube videos.
hi! I don’t see a red import button from my character sheet. am I missing something, or do I have to have a paid account to get this feature?
Hi! No, the D&D Beyond importer is available to free accounts too. Make sure you’re using the “Character Sheet (2020)” sheet as your template. This page explains in more details how the feature works: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/WorldAnvilCodex/a/dndbeyond
