This month, we’re letting the community (that’s you!) take the spotlight! Instead of an official challenge, we’re presenting the unofficial community challenges you’ve created, in an event we’re dubbing this Friendship February.
Why take part in a World Anvil unofficial challenge?
Well, they’re a great way to get inspiration and expand your world! Since many participants read each other’s entries, they’re also fantastic for seeing how different creators respond to the same prompt. And of course, many creators in a challenge read each one another’s work and comment on it – so you might get feedback, or even new followers, too!
Oh… and if that’s not enough, several of these challenges have badges and even a prize for the winner!
Here are six of our favorite UNOFFICIAL challenges – run by the community – that you can take part in this month!
1. Duckuary 2025: fill your world with… ducks! 🦆
Enter this challenge with ANY kind of content (articles, maps, timelines)… as long as it’s duck-related! There is a participation badge to go with it, and you might win an ebook copy of Structuring Life to Support Creativity, by Sandra Tayler. And since it’s the second year Tillerz runs this challenge, you can even check out last year’s entries to get some inspiration.
Check the Duckuary 2025 challenge page and use #duckuary2025 in the community stream to share your entry!
2. Ink & Essence: dive deep into a character ✒️
Lady Wynter, this challenge’s organizer, invites you to delve deep into your worldbuilding by creating a richly detailed character article and a captivating prose piece that brings the character’s story to life. Explore pivotal moments, hidden backstories, or transformative events that define your character and shape their legacy. You can even win a $25 gift card!
Check the Ink & Essence challenge page for the rules and some inspiration!
3. 12in12: It’s the season of love! 💌
This challenge is judged collaboratively by Kiyomo and Mochimanoban, and it’s all about love and relationships! There’s both a participation and a winner badge to be won, and is open to any kind of worldbuilding, as long as it’s love-related. This is part of Kiyomo’s 12in12 year-long event, in which every month they launch a new challenge with a guest judge from the community and, of course, a unique badge!
Check the challenge page for more details!
4. Get in the Game! Immortalize your world 🕵️
In this one-month worldbuilding challenge, you can get your worldbuilding immortalized as a cameo in WordiGirl’s upcoming card trading game, “Rock, Paper, Scissor, Spy”! There are no limitations for the article’s topic, so feel free to let your imagination run wild!
Check the Get in the Game! challenge page for details!
5. Challenge about challenges and challengers 🔥
In this challenge, Rahjar challenges you to write about… challenges! Write an article of a different template each day of the month that is related in some way with challenges. This could be challenge traditions, items used in challenges… the sky is the limit!
Check the Challenge about challenges and challenges page for details and examples!
6. Classified February: keep it secret, keep it safe 🤫
Jester% challenges you to write about secrets in your world. Uncover the secrets and lies that everyone wants to get their hands on in your world and dive deep into the conflicts that emerge around secrets and truth! This challenge is part of Jester%’s Challengathon, a series of challenges for the entirety of 2025!
Check the Classified February challenge page for details!
Special mention: Let’s make a story! 🙌
Ever played that game where one person starts a story, and everyone else takes turns continuing it in their own quirky way? Well, that’s the kind of creative chaos Imagica (aka Make lore, not war) is bringing to World Anvil! All throughout February, several members of the community will have 48 hours each to continue the story.
Sign-ups for this event are now closed, but it’s such a cool concept I had to include it! Keep and eye on the challenge page to see the final story when it gets published!
Which challenges are you take part in?
You could focus all your creative energy on a single one, or you could enter multiple challenges at once for ultimate community worldbuilding madness! Remember that having fun is the point of these events, and I for one can’t wait to see the awesome creations these events will inspire.
So, you know the drill… grab your hammer and go worldbuild!
