We ended last year with 2 Flash Challenges dealing with death, so let’s start this year off with births! This Flash Challenge is also in honor of WorldAnvil’s creator, Dimitris. As February is his Birth month.

What traditions do the cultures of your world have surrounding the births of their children? Tell us about them with a tradition template article! The flash challenges have also joined the Prompt feature, so from now on everyone will submit their articles by creating them through the prompt feature.

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
― Mark Twain

By Benji Aird

What do the people of your world do when a child is born? Do they celebrate their birth? Do they keep celebrating birthdays? What traditions does one of your cultures have around births and what do other cultures think about those traditions? Is a birth special for an entire settlement, or is it a private family deal?

In a Chinese custom, named Zuo yuezi, the mothers are expected to stay in 30 days confinement with their newborns, without eating raw fruit or showering. The Ibo people in West Africa give the placenta a full burial rite under a tree. The umbilical cord is a link to your mother and should be honored, therefore the Japanese keep their umbilical cords in a lacquer box. In Korea, you are 1-year-old when you are born.
