We’ve just made creating articles on World Anvil EVEN QUICKER AND EASIER with Inline Article Creation!
Worldbuilding isn’t linear. It’s a network, a nexus of interconnected information. And that makes those connections incredibly important. That’s why we’ve just introduced a new way to make articles, even faster, so you can focus on your flow!
This short video explains it all, and read below for more! 🙂

Ηow to use the new inline article creation
Type @ and then the name of your article, as if you were making a mention. If it doesn’t exist yet you’ll be able to press the plus button, and create it right there from your article! Just choose a template type, and the article will be spawned in your world.

This system means you can worldbuild in flow, adding articles as names and ideas come to you, without getting distracted and clicking away. If you’re in the Articles and World Manager, you’ll see them appear in your world tree in real time (it’s pretty satisfying!)
Once you’re ready, you can go fill in your notes about it when you’re ready, so future you remembers exactly which this new connection was so important for your grand master plan! And the new article will contain a note saying: You created this article on [DATE] using the inline mentions system—to remind you where it came from!
Pssst: if you want to play with cool toys before everone else, sign up to be an Alchemist Tester!
Who can use inline article creation, and where?
This new feature is available to all users—freeman and Guild—in the Visual editor (a.k.a. Plutarch). And it works in your articles and categories, of course, but also anywhere else with the Visual Editor, such as your homepage and timelines! So if you’re deep in history worldbuilding you can also create placeholder articles without leaving the timeline flow. This is very useful because when you then edit these articles and publish them, the links you already created will work without you having to go back and add them!
