Our devs have been hard at work for the past weeks, and today we have some huge quality of life improvements to Manuscripts, our novel writing software, as well as a ton of new options to style your world. Let’s take a look at everything new!

Manuscripts 1.5 is out!

We’ve been working on improving Manuscripts to make them easier to use… and this is not even its final form! The new update refreshes the UI, both in style and functionality:

But that’s not all! The new update also includes the Corkboard, a visual way to plan and outline your novel using sticky notes. Edit scene and chapter summaries, create new ones, and reorganize them—all from the same place:

Additionally, the new wordcount tools let you set your goal and keep track of your progress as you write, for the entire Manuscript or for individual chapters:

And yes, there’s even more! A commonly suggested improvement was changing how manuscript notifications work… so we’ve reworked them. Now, rather than sending a notification to all your followers as soon as you publish your Manuscript, YOU get to choose when you send notifications, their content, and which chapters are linked.

There’s even more to this update, and much more to come! Check out the feature for yourself, or take a look at the guide to learn how to use it.

New World Styling Menu

In the past, changing the look of your world was mostly limited to choosing a pre-made theme or getting deep into the technical CSS rabbit hole… but no more! While both options are still available, you can now customize what your world looks like to your taste without CSS. To get started, view your world and click the art palette icon on the right edge of your screen. This is what the new World Styling Menu looks like:

The process is very simple:

  1. Go to the Style Controls tab
  2. Select the element you want to style
  3. Change its color, background, border, font, or anything else you want!

You’ll be able to preview what you’re changing immediately, but nothing is save until you click save. Check the guide to styling your world for details!
