Challenge Help FAQs

The community livestream is one of the best places to get advice from the founders of World Anvil and the community. Here are some questions we had:

If you have any questions, please post them below in the comments!

How should I go about promoting my World Anvil World to the Community?

This is an awesome question! I would suggest joining a chapter or joining a role with similar interests. Start by lifting others up in your group. Once you’ve gotten comfortable doing this, you can do this in the larger community and social media. One of the biggest challenges is showing a community why they should interact with something. Creating something for others to interact with is about creating value for them. So, focus on making great resources, free maps, campaign modules, or an entertaining reading experience.

Remember, social media is about being social, so avoid acting like a spam-bot. Instead, take an interest in others too. Be persistent and consistent. If you want a great example of this, you can check out Gail Carriger and learn from her!

Creative Help FAQs

The community livestream is one of the best places to get creative advice from the founders of World Anvil and the community. Here are some questions we had, from worldbuilding to writing.

What worldbuilding do I need to create fiction, to write a book, to host an RPG Campaign?

If you’re starting a new world setting, or just trying to refocus an old novel or campaign setting, you need your World Anvil Meta! We’ve created a blog post about this and we even have a seminar on Youtube about this invaluable tool.

How does copyright work? Any tips?

As a general rule of thumb, if it is not yours and you do not have the creator’s permission, don’t use it. However, if someone else hosts the content, you can embed it into your world. This is what we do with things like YouTube videos and Spotify playlists. Embedding does not break copyright because it is not you who posted or hosts that piece of content.

If there is an issue, World Anvil receives a DMCA request, which is like a cease-and-desist. Here, we will first inform you and send instructions on what piece of content is in violation of the DMCA. In these cases, we simply ask that you remove this piece of content.

What are the Community’s Alchemist?

Alchemists are like the beta testers of World Anvil’s latest features. They can get sneak peaks while also using and providing feedback on new tools. When we release a feature, we often look at our alchemists for prime examples to showcase the features. We often feature Alchemist articles just this way. You can read more about them and becoming an alchemist in this blog post.

Where would you recommend new World Anvil Community members starting with CSS?

We have many guides on our codex to help get users started modifying their world. Specifically, I recommend starting there and looking for a theme you want to try to modify. From there, follow the linked codex guides to help build your theme. Indeed, if you need more help, we have a css-help discord.

Check Out these Awesome Beans: Anvilite Spotlight

Finally, time for our favorite thing! Let’s shout out some amazing members of our community and give away amazing goodies.

Community Member Spotlight: Stormbril’s Togae: He who Sings Death

This impressive article comes from the premier league winner of our Bard Challenge, featuring the character Togae, who sings the life stories of the recently deceased. Instantly, this article is visually and auditorily stunning. With writing, Stormbril took the stereotypically lighthearted version of the bard, and masterfully crafted a darker version to fit the tone of their world. Specifically, the lore is cleverly fed through this article with some AMAZING use of CSS. Please give their article a read and your love for their amazing work!

Community Stream Raffle

During our latest stream, we raffled off a FABULOUS Kobold Press PDF Super Bundle – congratulations to the raffle winner! If you would like to take part in these community raffles as well, you are always welcome to join our Twitch Streams. By chance, if you aren’t able to make it, you can always take part in our challenges for a chance to earn prizes and/or community recognition.

Lore from the Anvil

We get up to all kinds of shenanigans during streams! Read on this week for something more musically inspired.

What is the source of the music played before the stream?

These tracks are made by Norse Foundry to represent different parts of the creative process and how it feels to Worldbuild. This music is royalty free, which means you can play them on your streams! In fact, Janet particularly likes one song, which reminds her of Runescape. Can you figure out which one it is?

That’s all for this week, lovely beans! See you next week for the recap, and until then – grab your hammer, and go worldbuild!
