What’s the PDF Viewer?

Simply put, it’s a new feature that lets you embed your PDF files anywhere into your World Anvil world. So if you use tools like GMBinder or The Homebrewery to create documents for your homebrew, you can now fully integrate them with your worldbuilding! Whether you’re a GM wanting to share your custom rules with your players or a content creator who wants to share your ideas with the world, this feature is for you!

How does it work?

To embed PDF files into your world, simply follow these steps:

  1. First, you need to upload a PDF file and get the link.
  2. Go to the article you want to embed it in and type [pdf:URL], replacing URL with the full URL to the PDF file.
  3. And that’s it! You should now be able to see your PDF in the article.

If you’re using Google Drive to host your PDF file, there’s an extra step you need to take before step 2. After getting the public view link, you’ll see that the end of that link looks like /view?usp=sharing. In order to embed it, you’ll need to change it for /preview?usp=drivesdk. There are a couple of advanced options too: you can specify the height of the embed in pixels and hide the usual PDF toolbar. For example, the tag [pdf:URL|150|no] will make the embed 150 pixels high and will disable the toolbar.

This feature is available to Guild members (Journeyan and above tiers)!
