Ready to power-up your article editing experience? In this feature update, you can now access article prompts, settings, and more from the new article edit modals! Let’s check out each of these changes in detail.

Article prompts in the edit modal

Until now, if you wanted to write in the article prompts, you had to use the Advanced Editor. Well, no more! When editing or creating an article in the new edit modals, you’ll find a new “Prompts” button at the bottom. Click it and watch the ✨ magic ✨ happen:

Such a fancy new toolbar! (Screenshot as of April 2025)

Clicking on it will let you select which prompts you want to use and which ones you want to keep out of the way. And this goes for all the general article sections as well, such as the sidebar and the footer. This new system keeps the prompts you’re looking for at your fingertips while hiding everything you don’t need.

And yes, the beholder-eyed among you might have noticed that this is not the only new button in the screenshot above! This brings us to…

Settings, Styling, and Socials!

These options are now available from the article edit modal too:

  • Styling: Click the art palette button to edit the article’s CSS and CSS classes (Guild-only).
  • Socials: Click the speech bubbles icon to see and interact with the article’s comments, as well as see article stats and share your article with your followers (and beyond!).
  • Settings: These are the general settings, such as marking your article as NSFW, allowing content copy, and setting “next” and “previous” articles.

This is not the last update this area of the site will get as we work to bridge the gap between the new edit modals and the Old Version Edit (previously known as Advanced Edit). It’s all designed to make the editing experience easier by keeping everything you need on a single view.

But wait… there’s even more??

A safer article migration

Last year, we introduced the ability to switch editors in an individual article (learn how here). However, that came with a big red flashing warning: switching from the Advanced to the Visual Editor is risky if you used BBCode tags that are not supported on the Visual Editor!

Well, with the new article migrator, World Anvil will automatically check if there are any “problematic” BBCode tags and warn you before your proceed at your own risk. Your article’s BBCode will not be changed though, so make sure to go back and fix anything yourself if there are any warnings! To access the article migrator, click the Settings button in the article toolbar and find the “Text Editor Settings” section. This is how the migration screen looks:

As you can see, the left half of the screen shows a preview of the article if you go through with the migration. The right half of the screen lists all detected issues. You can always proceed and ignore all warnings, but only do so if you’re willing to risk losing your formatting or even pieces of article content!

Well, that’s all for this update—again, if you find any bugs, file a report so we can track them down! Have you tried these new options? What did you think? Let us know in the comments!
